Hi! My name is João, I´m a Portuguese Geotechnical Engineer. I have a BSc in Geological Engineering. I’ve grown particularly fond of rock mechanics and slope stability due to my research on the sea cliffs of Portugal’s south west coast as part of my MSc.
Back in 2015 I was looking for the next step in my professional development in the Geotechnical and Environmental Consultancy Industry and I came across LEAP’s social media. It immediately appealed to me as LEAP deals with all aspects of geotechnical site investigation and geotechnical design on a daily basis.
My job as a Geotechnical Engineer at LEAP is quite dynamic and that’s what I enjoy most about it. One day I might be out supervising boreholes and logging soils and rocks and the next I might be visiting a site contaminated with hydrocarbons to carry out groundwater sampling. On other days you will find me in the office writing interpretative geotechnical reports. There´s never a dull moment and new surprises usually wait at the next site!
One of the many things I love at LEAP is our team spirit. Everyone is highly motivated to help each other should any assistance be needed in any project and our directors and more senior members of staff are always ready to provide guidance and mentor more junior staff. It’s a great work environment to develop your own skills and ideas and grow both as a professional and as an individual. We also have a lot of fun together as we have our own annual summer LEAP fest and LEAP Christmas dinner! Did I mention that we also play badminton together on Tuesdays?
